Theaterverein Spieltrieb e.V. is an amateur theatre group based in Waldmohr, Kusel district, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Founded in January 2015 by a theatre educator, it has staged spoken plays and, since 2019, mainly original musicals written within the group.[1][2]
History
The ensemble formed in 2015 and gave its first production in 2016, Ray Cooney's comedy Funny Money, with 15 performers in Waldmohr and Sulzbach. Young people from a cooperation project with the Jugendhaus Waldmohr soon joined, and the group premiered its first original musical, Eterno Cardeas – Wir sind die Macht. In 2017 it staged Tracy Letts's drama Eine Familie (August: Osage County), after which it turned to producing its own musicals.[2]
The youth musical #vollamok (2019), about a school shooting and set entirely in a classroom, was developed together with the twelve young performers and played four times.[3][2] After a break in rehearsals during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group returned in 2023 with the country musical comedy Welcome to New Hazel, set in a fictional small town in Texas and produced together with the dance school Tanzmanufaktur from Limbach; the casting workshop had been held in October 2021 and rehearsals ran from autumn 2021 to spring 2023.[4] With an ensemble of 38 and an elaborate set, it was the group's largest production to date.[2]
In April 2025 the group marked its tenth anniversary with a show revisiting its musicals, performed by an ensemble of 40.[2] A new musical, Die Königin von Ferrovia, was cast in May 2025; its premiere is scheduled for October 2026.[5][6]
Repertoire
After two spoken plays by established playwrights, the group has concentrated on original musicals whose book is written by its director, with music by composers from its circle; its youth section also performs self-written musicals.[1][2]
