Theaterverein Wolfsteiner Komödianten is an amateur theatre group based in Wolfstein in the Kusel district, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.[1] It stages an annual open-air comedy during Wolfstein's Pentecost festivities and, in winter, an evening of comedies in the hall of a local inn.[2][3]

History

The group's open-air performance is a regular part of the Pentecost weekend in Wolfstein, which ends with the traditional Maikur walk on Whit Monday. According to a 2018 press report, the group had contributed to this programme every year for 15 years; rehearsals for the Pentecost production traditionally begin on the Friday after Ash Wednesday.[4] By 2014 the group had also been performing a winter programme for some years.[2]

In 2014 the group appeared for the first time with street theatre at the Wolfstein town festival, performing short scenes at several places during the festival.[5][6] In June 2017 the first performance of Die windige Alm had to be abandoned during the first act because of heavy rain; the play was performed in full the following evening. The production had 13 players and had been rehearsed 25 times since March.[7]

Repertoire

The group performs comedies: a three-act play each year at Pentecost and, in winter, programmes of several short plays or sketches on a common theme, such as holidays (2014) or banks (2019).[2][8] The 2017 production was adapted with references to local events in Wolfstein.[7]
