The Theaterverein der Pfadfinder Ottobeuren e. V. is the amateur theatre group of the scouts (Pfadfinder) in Ottobeuren, district of Unterallgäu, Swabia, Bavaria, Germany. The scouts have staged an autumn play every year since the late 1960s and in 2014 presented the open-air play Silach for the 1250th anniversary of Ottobeuren Abbey.[1][2]

History

By 2014 the scouts had performed a kind of "farmhouse parlour theatre" every autumn for 46 years, first in the Hirschsaal and later in the parish hall. For the abbey's 1250th anniversary they revived Silach oder die Stiftung des Klosters Ottobeuren, a play about the founder of the abbey written by the Benedictine Father Kaspar Kuhn and first performed on 19 September 1875. After three years of preparation, the new version Silach premiered on 18 July 2014 on an open-air stage in the west courtyard of the abbey, with 22 speaking roles, a total of 50 to 80 helpers and a stand for 320 spectators per performance; new sets and costumes were made, and the budget was about 25,000 euros.[1][2]

Repertoire

The autumn productions are usually comedies, many in Swabian dialect, staged in the parish hall.[1] In November 2025 the scouts staged Der Geisterbräu for the third time after 1976 and 2000, a play with 27 roles and four sets.[3]
