The Volkstheater Ringsee is the amateur theatre section of the sports club Freie Turnerschaft Ingolstadt Ringsee e. V. 1920 in the Ringsee district of Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. Theatre has been part of the club since its early years; the section performs Bavarian farces every autumn on the stage of the club's clubhouse in the Martin-Hemm-Straße.[1][2]

History

According to the section's leader, Marcus Rebele, plays have been performed for as long as the Freie Turnerschaft Ringsee has existed. With the opening of the old clubhouse with its theatre stage in 1924, members performed plays and sang in public. Performances stopped after the Nazis came to power in 1933. After the Second World War, when the club's stage could not yet be used, the group played in the community hall of the Reichsbahn repair works in Ingolstadt and in the Heidl hall in Kösching. Plays were staged in the old clubhouse, with interruptions, until 1994; since 1995 the group has performed on the stage of the new clubhouse.[1]

Under Ludwig Schneider, who led the group from 1978 (officially 1982–1992), the number of actors grew, full-length plays were staged again, and in 1992 the theatre group became a formal section of the club. In 2007 it adopted the name Volkstheater Ringsee. The section describes its aim as entertaining audiences and preserving Bavarian culture, tradition and dialect; at the time of the club's 90th theatre anniversary it had 36 members and was looking for younger players.[1]

Repertoire

The group performs Bavarian farces and folk comedies (Bauerntheater), such as Der Ehestreik in its early years.[1] In October and November 2026 it is staging Der Narrenbacher Almabtrieb.[3]

Organisation

The Volkstheater Ringsee is a section of the Freie Turnerschaft Ingolstadt Ringsee e. V. 1920, a sports club.[2][1]
