Wackerschnuppen Improvisationstheater e.V. is an amateur improvisational theatre group based in Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.[1] Active since 2012, it performs unscripted shows based on suggestions from the audience.[2]

History

In its early years the group described itself as an improv theatre from Mainz and Wiesbaden. Its show of 20 October 2012 at the Binger Bühne in Bingen am Rhein was reported by the group as nearly sold out, and for 2013 it announced further shows there, including an improv battle against the group Planlos from Bern, as well as an appearance at the Kulturuferfest in Bingen.[3] By 2016 the group was playing a regular Impro-Bar evening at the M8-Liveclub in Mainz alongside shows at the Binger Bühne.[4]

Repertoire

As usual in improvisational theatre, the group performs without script, director or prompter; scenes, characters and stories are made up on stage from the audience's suggestions, and the shows range from comedy to drama and often include music.[5] Its formats have included the short-form Impro-Show, the competitive Impro-Battle in which teams play against each other and the audience awards points,[6] Impro Royal (2016),[4] the Impro-Bar and the Blockbuster, in which the group improvises films that the audience steers from scene to scene.[2] The member list of its regional association names Schrottwichteln (2025), Ab in die Ferien (2026) and Das ist (k)ein Musical – Improtheater trifft Musik (2026) among its recent shows.[1]

Venue

The group's regular home is the M8-Liveclub at Mitternachtsgasse 8 in Mainz, where it plays its Impro-Bar and Blockbuster shows; it also performs on other stages in the Rhine-Main area and elsewhere in Germany.[2]

Organisation

In April 2016 the group took part in the 4th Mainzer Impro-Festival together with the improv groups Musenkuss, Schlaraffen and CouCou.[4] Its work is funded by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Family, Women, Culture and Integration.[2]
