History
In 1983 Roswitha Geuther looked for actors through the Weißenburger Tagblatt for Weißenburger Szenen 1634, a history play set in the Thirty Years' War written by the local teacher Gerhard Janner, which was performed at the Bergwaldtheater in 1984 and 1985. Some of the participants wanted to continue, and in 1986 they staged Georg Büchner's Leonce und Lena in the cultural centre of the Karmeliterkirche; at the same time Geuther started a production of Fitzgerald Kusz's Franconian dialect play Derham is derham, which the group has revived repeatedly. In 1987 the group gave itself a name and founded the association Weißenburger Bühne '87 e. V. with 23 founding members.[1]
Repertoire and youth work
The group promotes young members both in its large productions at the Bergwaldtheater and in its own youth theatre, working in spoken theatre, movement theatre, music theatre and mime.[2] In summer 2026 it staged Erich Kästner's Emil und die Detektive at the Bergwaldtheater.[3]
