Zeitkind e. V. is an amateur theatre and music association in Garching north of Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 2010 to continue Garching's tradition of community music theatre, it stages plays, runs an improvisational theatre group and offers workshops.[1][2]

History

The association takes its name from the musical Zeitkind, which Albert Neuhauser, then choirmaster of the St. Severin church choir, staged with the choir on behalf of the town of Garching for its environment week in 1992. With text and music by Martin Keeser of Freising and directed by Hardy Hoosman, it premiered at the Garching Bürgerhaus with about 140 people on stage. The title referred to the question of whether one may bring a child into a world threatened by environmental disaster. During his 42 years as church musician (1967–2009), Neuhauser produced a series of music theatre works with the choir and a regular team of directors, a choreographer and a lighting designer.[1]

When Neuhauser retired as choirmaster at the end of 2009, many participants wanted the tradition of music theatre in Garching to continue, and the association Zeitkind e. V. was founded on 17 June 2010 as a platform for music and theatre.[1]

Activities

Theatre is at the core of the association's work.[2] Its productions have included Yasmina Reza's Der Gott des Gemetzels, and in October 2026 it is staging the crime play Mord im Römerhof. Its improvisational theatre group, accompanied by live music, performs at local events such as the Garching street festival, and in February 2026 appeared at the 35th anniversary of a sports club in Ismaning. The association also offers improv courses, painting workshops and yoga classes.[3]

Organisation

Zeitkind is recognised as a provider of independent youth welfare services.[4]
