Theaterverein Nordendorf e. V. is an amateur theatre group in Nordendorf, district of Augsburg, Swabia, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1962, it had staged 92 plays in 547 performances, with more than 120 players in over 1,000 roles, by its 60th anniversary.[1]

History

The club was founded on 19 December 1962 at the Gasthaus Miller in Nordendorf, with the aim of promoting amateur theatre and cultural heritage. Its first performance, on 30 March 1963, was the drama Die Annenruhe together with the one-act comedy Anton Schlips, played with old sets and a curtain bought on credit. From the start the club staged a spring production around Easter and an autumn production before Christmas.[1] Until 1967 the band The Fellows provided music for the plays.[1]

The club joined the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. on 10 April 1968, whose courses in make-up, stage building and directing its members attended, and it set up a youth group with 23 young members.[1] It was entered in the register of associations on 17 March 1981. The Bavarian broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk reported on the club in its series Schwabenspiegel. In 1988 it became sponsor (Pate) of the Theaterverein Volksbühne Oberndorf at that group's 10th anniversary.[1]

In April 2012 Elmar Leib handed over the chairmanship after 50 years. After 469 performances, the club's 81st play, Alles nur Theater (2012), was its last in the hall of the Gasthaus Miller; it then moved to the new Bürgersaal of Nordendorf, where the first premiere took place on 2 November 2013.[1] There were no productions in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[2]

Repertoire

The club plays Bavarian comedies and farces. Until 1991 it usually gave two productions a year, in spring and autumn; since 1992 it has staged one autumn production a year. Its youth group performed its own plays in 1969 and from 1972 to 1975.[2]
